Learning Sciences International

Since 2002 Dean has conducted several research studies for Learning Sciences International (LSI). LSI develops on-line teacher professional development courses. A survey of 334 teachers who had completed LSI courses was undertaken in 2003. This survey, conducted on-line, addressed teacher satisfaction with the courses, technical aspects of the courses, how teachers were able to apply what they learned from the courses to their teaching in their classrooms, and how the teachers felt their students benefited from them taking the courses. In 2005 research was conducted with two cohorts of teachers who participated in individual interviews and focus groups. The teachers described their experiences in the course, how they learned, what they learned, and the benefits to their teaching and their students. Additional research is planned for the 2005-2006 academic year.
